Canadian shoe designer Ron White celebrated the start of his annual shoe drive earlier today at his retail shop in the Manulife Centre on Bloor Street. The beginning of the shoe drive dates back 15 years and has quickly grown to become the largest shoe drive in the country, with over 21,000 pairs of shoes distributed to those in need. This years charities, chosen by The Ron White Foundation, include Dress For Success, Street Health, Halton Place, Out of the Cold and Ve’ahavta.
Over the years the designer, often called ‘Canada’s Shoe-ru’, has encouraged many celebrities to give back and has collected autographed shoes and donations to help his cause. The number of shoes in the collection is impressive, amassing what has been called a mini Bata Shoe Museum. Every year, a display of the collection is displayed and new celebrity donations are taken. You too can get involved by donating your new or gently used shoes at any Ron White location. The drive runs until February 13 making it the perfect opportunity to donate an older pair and get yourself a new pair of shoes for this Valentines Day!
