The award season is coming to an end, but the end always brings the best, and the Oscar red capret this year was filled with many best dress, and sadly many worst. Here are our picks for best and worst dressed, and have a look at all the looks at the bottom of the post and pick your favourites.
Richard: I may have said that Angelina Jolie was my worst dressed pick at the SAG Awards, but she has redeemed herself in the beautiful Atelier Versace gown that was a showstopper with the dramatic slit that exposed more then enough leg for the night (SOmeone even created a twitter handle for Angelina’s leg after last night). Team that up with Brad Pitt and how can she not be on the best dressed list.
Richard: Viola Davis has been someone to look for on the red carpet this award season. She wore a beautiful white Marchesa dress at the SAG awards and now she dazzles in this green Vera Wang. The dress colour complements her skin colour perfectly, and the jeweled neckline and mixture of fabrics makes this dress a best of the night.
Marc: I love Michelle Williams in this Louis Vuitton gown! I’m not sure if it’s because she has been on and off every best/worst list this awards season but there is something about Michelle Williams style that keeps me intrigued. Nominated for Best Actress in ‘My Week With Marilyn’, the star paid a chic tribute to the style icon she portrayed in the film. Michelle also completes the tribute with a Fred Leighton for Forevermark necklace with over 30 carats worth of diamonds.
Marc: Milla Jovovich looked stunning in this Elie Saab Couture gown. The one shoulder works perfectly for and is accentuated with her side swept hair. She completed the outfit beautifully with a structured clutch and jewellery on the opposite arm, keeping her look light and airy.
Richard: Anna Faris showed up in a Diane Von Furstenburg sequined dress that was unflattering and not age appropriate. I can see what she was going for, a sexy and flirty look like Rose Byrne did in her sequined one-shoulder Vivienne Westwood dress, this just looks old and unattractive.
Richard: I have to give it to Melissa McCarthy, for a bigger girl, she always looks great in her dresses. However, at these awards she wore a custom-made Marina Rinaldi that was a pink colour that washed her out. The dress also had too much extra details and ruching that it made her top heavy, which no girl wants.
Marc: Jennifer Lopez can do no wrong (or at least that is what Richard says), but this custom-made Zuhair Murad dress was wrong on so many levels, and even Richard agreed with me on this. The dress is beautiful on its own, but on Jennifer the dress made her look bigger and hippier then she is (especially when it was seen from the front on TV). The arm holes also look out of place like it was something that was an afterthought by the designer and the stripes remind me of a circus tent. This was definitely not one of Jennifer best looks.
Marc: Don’t get me wrong, I think this Givenchy Couture gown worn and custom made for actress Rooney Mara is gorgeous. The white mermaid style gown is timeless and on trend with what we’ve been seeing this season. However, with Rooney’s blunt, straight bangs and deep red lips, I feel the dress gets split in half, the bottom of her being flowing and the top half being a jumble of curved and straight lines that are working against her. Always quirky on the red carpet with her fashion choices, Rooney had input while this dress was being designed. Which could explain why her cleavage looks like they have eyelids.
One thing we both agreed on was best dressed man of the night Ryan Seacrest in Burberry. Unfortunately for Ryan, the expensive suit would have “ashes” on it thanks to a promotional stunt by Sascha Baron Cohen.
