The last couple of years have been a whirl-wind for Canadian designer Jason Wu. He was a rising star in the fashion world just a few short years ago, winning the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star award in 2008. However, it wasn’t until Vogue Magazine’s editor-at-large André Leon Talley introduced the young designer to the soon to be First Lady Michelle Obama that his career would be given a rocket launch. Fast forward to 2012, where we find the designer bringing his designs to the general public in an affordable way, with his collaboration with Target. With his collection for Target selling out in just a few hours in the USA (1,200 Target stores throughout the USA to be exact), we were excited to see what would happen when it was announced Target would open a one day only pop-up shop here in Toronto.
There was certainly a lot of media hype, with all the major news outlets covering the event. Fellow Canadian, stylist Brad Goreski lent his support for Wu by showing up at the event and doing interview after interview about the collaboration. The line up outside the King Street location started early- we were told the first ones arrived at 4am, and soon after the line grew longer and longer. The mood of the event was energetic and fun considering it was an earlier than regular event for us, and we enjoyed chatting with Jason and Brad to gather their take on why it’s important to include the Canadian market in exciting endeavours like this. Overall, we had a blast! Jason Wu must be feeling on top of the world.
Check out the pictures from the event below and let us know what you thought of the exclusive collection! We thought the 1950’s inspired silhouettes and fun, flirty colours were right on par with the trends for this Spring and Summer season.
