We visited the MEXX location at Yonge and Eglinton to preview the Spring/Summer 2012 collection and see what would be showing up in stores. The women’s collection was full of colours and patterns, from bright reds, blues, greens and pinks, with stripes and polka dots taking centre stage. We particularly loved the water colour print dress that was belted at the waist. The colours, design and lightweight fabric makes this the supreme winner for the warmer season (see picture 4). It could be worn from day to night depending on the right accessories.
The men’s collection was a little more basic, which is seemingly the standard with mens wardrobes. Clothiers seem to stay away from loud patterns and bold colour for the boys. Given the less than playful clientèle that men usually are, the collection had some good summer ready colours and fabrics, and Mexx seems to be taking fit as a more serious issue, with the tailoring being more relaxed and fitted. This is especially true of their blazers, which used to be very boxy.
We thought the children’s collection was adorable! Smaller versions of some of the hottest trends with mini motorcycle jackets and rayban style sunglasses, any mom or dad would love to put their little one into ‘dress up’ mode. In fact, on our way out of the preview we had to pick up an adorable sweater for Richard’s friend who is expecting a baby boy in June.
Although we were surprised to see Mexx has begun to up their game this season, the biggest shocker was to find out that the clothing is designed in Montreal, Canada. A little fact we didn’t know before, but something we always love to support. It’s nice to have Canadian designs in Canadian stores.
