Canadians have been getting spoiled in the retail department recently, with several US retailers (Target, Ann Taylor, Tory Burch, to name a few) finally deciding to make their way up north. Now it looks like Canada is getting another US retailer, this time its upscale department store Nordstrom. With this announcement, it looks like Canadian based Holt Renfrew and The Bay will be getting some competition.
Nordstrom will be taking over the locations of several Sears stores in Cadillac Fairview malls across Canada. It was announced today that four locations will be opened over the next four years – Vancouver’s Pacific Centre (Spring 2015), Calgary’s Chinook Centre (Fall 2014), Ottawa’s Rideau Centre (Spring 2014) and Toronto’s Sherway Gardens, which wont be open until Fall 2016.
Shopping center giant Cadillac Fairview must have really wanted to get Nordstrom stores into their malls, because they had to pay out Sears Canada for the remaining time on their leases for a reported $170 Million!
There are still some big questions; What will the new Canadian venture entai , and more importantly, will you be shopping the new Canadian Nordstrom when they open, or will you still travel to the US? We’ll keep you posted.
