Closing out Toronto’s Fashion Week was a fantastic runway show by Canada’s newest U.S import, Express. Elevated by a mix of today’s top 40 hits, such as Calvin Harris’ “Feel so Close”, Express showed us what we’ll be wearing next Spring/Summer.
Express presented a mix of evening and day wear which included dresses, pants, shirts, shorts and jackets. This, contrasted with the models’ messy hair and basic make up, showed the consumer how effortless the outfits are to wear. Express incorporated a blend of materials, and kept their looks interesting through the use of color, lace and cutouts. Peplum was the leading trend on Express’ runways, used in both shirts and dresses, and I can’t wait to rock the peplum dresses. The use of peplum was the perfect cross between cute and sexy and complimented not only what will be trendy, but also showed us how to spice up the classic little black dress. The women of Express demonstrated the brand’s fun vibe with the perfect mix of attitude and class. The runway was both opened and closed by the very beautiful, Canadian model Jessica Stam. She looked particularly stunning in the closing outfit, a simple, yet incredibly sexy, red dress.
The personal standout at the Express 2013 Spring/Summer show was the menswear collection. Men were styled with carefree hair and dressed in outstanding outfits with varying degrees of formality. The most impressive part of their collection was their suits. Incredibly attractive men were paired in perfect fitting, dark suits that made every man watching want to purchase one for themselves. Express played with color and pattern, mixing prints on shirts, ties and pocket squares. They truly made looking good effortless. The boys of Toronto Is Fashion can’t wait to get there hands on the suits, and on the accessories!
After the fantastic finale show, following an exceptional Fashion Week, Toronto Is Fashion was invited to attend the Express after party. The soiree was held in The Studio, directly beside the runway, which was transformed into a cool lounge setting. Express also had a fun pop-up-shop, which showed off some new pieces. On top of everything else, Canadian group Dragonette entertained the loving crowd with their famous hits which was a great touch to the show, adding to the chic, urban vibe.
With their incredible collection, there is no doubt that Express will be Toronto’s new favorite retailer. The Grand Opening event for the Toronto Eaton Centre store is on November 21st, and personally, I can’t wait! To celebrate the opening, Express is having a contest for a chance to win a $1000 shopping spree. Click here for the contest entry form, and head to Express Canada‘s website for more information.
