It was announced today that The Textile Museum of Canada will be hosting the new exhibit, “Marimekko, With Love” at the beginning of next year. The exhibit will be a retrospect of the early work of the Marimekko brand and its influence on fashion and design. The brand was founded in 1951 by designer Armi and Viljo Ratia, in Helsinki, Finland, and was known for their bold and colourful fabrics and prints. The brand took their designs to new heights this year, collaborating with Finnair for an airline makeover.
This news comes on the heels of the recent announcement that there will be a Christian Louboutin exhibit happening at Toronto’s Design Exchange in July of next year. The exhibit, which has already shown in London, will feature the designer’s shoe designs, referencing the origins of the iconic red sole through to the latest Louboutin collections including a range for men and desirable handbags.
The Textile Museum of Canada presents Marimekko, With Love, from January 21 – April 21, 2013. For more information visit the Textile Museum of Canada’s website.
