When we were invited to a whiskey tasting by our blogger friend Jay Strut, we weren’t sure what to think at first. We enjoy drinks at events, but we would never consider ourselves drinking connoisseurs…definitely not enough to be attending a tasting. However, after some convincing we decided to give it a chance and we had an amazing time!
The tasting was for The Glenlivet Whiskey, a premium Scottish single malt whiskey and the bestselling malt whisky in the United States. To go with the Scottish theme, the tasting was held at authentic Scottish pub/restaurant, The Caledonian on College St. We met up with some of our favourite bloggers and were treated to a history lesson by the Glenlivet Brand ambassador, Frank Biskupek about the Glenlivet brand and the distillery in Ballindalloch, Scotland.
He introduced us to the different years of whiskey Glenlivet offered and how the whiskeys were made. We were also given some great tips on how to taste whiskey, like how to smell the whiskey (take a gentle sniff, wait a few seconds and smell the whiskey again), and why you would add a dash of distilled water to the whiskey? To open up the flavour.
