Top designers from the Philippines and Canada held a successful gala premiere entitled Philippine Fashion’s Biggest Night last Friday, June 14th at the Roy Thomson Hall.
The roster for the Philippines was headed by some of the most iconic designers from the country such as John Ablaza, Francis Libiran, Noel Crisostomo, Roland Alzate, Leonard Co, Brian Maristela, Kenneth Barlis and Norman Noriega. Fourteen other designers from the country also took part in Pistahan de Couture – a ‘beautifully curated fashion show that pays homage to the many diverse festivals of the Philippines.’
Not to be missed out was the Project Terno showcase featuring Canadian designers David Dixon, Greta Constantine, Pedram Karimi and Nick Carter. The designers’ creative abilities were put to the test as they were asked to create their own version of the Filipino terno – a dress with butterfly sleeves. A background of the iconic national costume coupled with their own brand and philosophy were all needed to create the unique pieces.
Some of the other exhibits that were seen on this affair were Francis Libiran’s 100 Dress Collection, The Mangyan Tribes Exhibit, T’boli and Ibong Adarna Paintings as well as a wide array of booths featuring Philippine culture, entertainment, drinks and cuisine.
