Fancy Franks’ fundraiser in support of SickKids Foundation was a huge success! The event, which took place on Tuesday, July 23rd, is now officially known in Toronto as Fancy Franks National Hot Dog Day. As the afternoon event began at 12pm, there was already a line up 75 people deep! Here are some of the numbers from the day:
- $2,500 raised in support of SickKids Foundation
- 3,000 Frank Jrs were given away – one to every guest who visited
- 190 hot dog-shaped balloons were made
- 54 children’s faces were painted
- 9.5 hours: total event time
- 5 hot dog lovin’ segments aired live on CityTV’s Breakfast Television
- 1 mini traffic jam when Breakfast Television rushed a TTC streetcar to give away free dogs
Ubiquitously known across the United States, National Hot Dog Day is coming to Canada and will be presented by Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs in a big way. This year Fancy Franks National Hot Dog Day (#FFNHDD) will take part on Tuesday, July 23rd on the patio of Fancy Franks Restaurant located at 326 College Street from 12pm – 7pm where guests will be given a hot dog FREE of charge and the chance to support SickKids Foundation with the purchase of a drink.
Owner Angelos Economopoulos opened Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs at the beginning of October 2012 to much buzz and fanfare. The place was so popular prior to opening – anchored by a now city-famous mural – that once the soft opening was announced lineups began early and wrapped around the building.
In light of the success of the spot, Economopoulos — with 3 kids of his own and his wife who helps out at the spot a few times a week — really wanted to give back to the community. One cause near and dear to his heart was the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) that has been there when his children have needed them most.
As part of Fancy Franks National Hot Dog Day we’re giving away one free hot dog to every single customer that visits on July 23rd from 12pm – 7pm. SickKids Foundation is providing a few volunteers to help sell water and beverages throughout the day, which have been graciously donated by the Coca-Cola Company (@Cocacola_CA), and with all proceeds from sales going to the SickKids Foundation.
