The first-ever Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards will be handed out in early next year, recognizing some of Canada’s emerging and established talent in the fashion industry.
As one of the only events of it’s kind in Canada, the CAFA’s will featured 10 award categories including designer of the year for menswear, womenswear and accessories and an outstanding achievement award to celebrate the career of an established designer. An International Canadian Designer award will be given to Canadian talent that has achieved great success across the world and a Canadian Style Award will recognize a recipient who embodies the spirit of the country and serves as an unofficial ambassador for homegrown fashion and culture.
There will also be an award given for each model, stylist and photographer of the year. An emerging talent award, which is the only award selected through self-nomination, will recognize an innovative designer “emerging as a true creative force in Canadian fashion.”
Nominees are slated to be announced at a special ceremony in October, and winners will be selected through a confidential vote by the CAFA jury next January. The inaugural Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards gala is slated to take place Feb. 1, 2014 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.
