Toronto-based jewellery designers Vanessa Marino and Regan Hayes have been pretty busy since launching their Blackbird label, which features hand-crafted and unique jewellery. Recently the pair celebrated the launch of their 3rd collection, ‘Occult’, with a party that hosted select bloggers, media and fashion lovers from around the city.
The designers, who met on the first day of high-school, have a passion for creating products that are well made and incorporate each designers artistic flare. This hard work has been paying off. The girls have collaborated with 898 for Holt Renfrew’s H-Project, been named one of the top ten local Toronto jewellery designers this year and have begun to build up a celebrity following that includes Chantal Kreviazuk.
Their ‘Occult’ collection was inspired by the magic and mystery of a witchy woman. She is a powerful and beautiful enchantress adorned in opulent trinkets and charms from another realm. Incorporating heavy layers of gunmetal chain, and shiny geometric acrylic shapes with hints of rhinestone and quartz, each piece is filled with mysteries and secrets only known to the wearer. And thus, the Occult collection was born.
The entire offering is sold online as well as select retailers such as Brika (pop-up shop inside The Hudson’s Bay Company’s Queen Street store and online) and Coal Miner’s Daughter. The Occult collection will be available to the public in the near future, while styles seen in the above gallery can be purchased by visiting the Blackbird website by clicking here.
