Fashion Shoot From India Causes Controversy

Photographer Raj Shetye’s editorial shoot has sparked controversy for its resemblance to the horrific rape and murder of a young Indian woman on a bus in New Delhi.

It’s been over a year and half since the brutal incident, where a young female was attacked on a private bus that gained worldwide condemnation on the safety and security of women in India.
A recent fashion photoshoot has come under harsh criticism for using a setting and theme that resembles the incident. Taking place on a bus, the fashion shoot is titled ‘Wrong Turn’ and features the female model being attacked by a group of men.

The designer has responded to the criticism, saying to The Times of India “I have been getting a number of calls regarding this, I don’t know how to react. The shoot is not based on the Nirbhaya incident. It is just a depiction of the situation of women in our country right now . It is my personal work, not for any commercial value. I have taken the shoot down from my official site. I’m a working professional and I don’t want hate messages on Facebook and Twitter,”

Many have taken to social media to have their say on the issue, with the vast majority condemning the fashion spread. Have a look at some of the photos and tell us what you think.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time fashion has used the depiction of rape or violence towards women as a selling point. Here is a few famous ads that also came under heavy controversy.
