Toronto’s FAT -Alternative Arts & Fashion Week, kicked off this past Wednesday, in the heart of Toronto’s Liberty Village. Set in a warehouse studio, FAT seems to be the opposite of last month’s LG Fashion Week, with a smaller space where the runway shows and art were set in different rooms and spaces throughout the warehouse.
While many independent designers showed throughout the week, UK-based designer, and recent winner of Project Catwalk, Jasper Garvida was one of the best shows of the week. His F/W 2010 collection was inspired by the Art Deco movement, with beautiful patchwork designs on his knits, and gorgeous 20’s style designs. We met with the designer backstage, who almost didn’t make it to Toronto due to the volcanic ash, and couldn’t stop raving about his amazing team. It was nice to see an international designer bringing a different perspective to fashion week. Hopefully we can attract more designers to show here.
