This is a post we have been meaning to have out for you to read for some time now. However, the day after Amanda Lew Kee‘s show we had to change priorities as we dealt with a medical emergency. Luckily for us everything is well now, and we can get back to work! So, with that being said, we present to you the Amanda Lew Kee F/W 2012 collection.
After showing her last season’s collection in the studio runway room during Toronto Fashion Week, Amanda decided to switch things up and go for a simpler showing this year. Ditching the runway for a cool projection video and forgoing the bevy of models in favour of showcasing the designs on herself. Projected on white fabric decorating the walls of The Hoxton, the video had Amanda modeling her latest designs with heavy bass music filling in the background. This season saw Amanda Lew Kee draw parallels to her very first collection, with a return to an ‘all black everything’ state of mind. Noticeably missing from this seasons collection were the visor hats from her last show and the odd fabric choices that were slammed by many critics in her show two seasons ago. We love that Amanda experiments with fabric choices and techniques, but it’s an amazing refresher to have a designer listen to her critics to refine her pieces that gives the consumer something beautiful and edgy.
For this season’s collection, Amanda stuck to what she does best: playing up textures. She mixes black leather, knits, cottons and more. She doesn’t hold back with her fabric combinations and proves this is her strong suit. Beautiful pieces like the leather jacket with fur trim, the leather fringe skirt, and the sheer silk blouse help the collection really stand out. Whether buying the look as a whole or simply taking one or two separates, this collection will be a dream for any stylist looking to pull for shoots. Certainly an impressive show that makes the statement to her critics that she’ll always come back swinging. The designer may just be as bad-ass as this collection.
