Get Mall’d Part 2 : We Go (Outer City) Mall Hopping

A few weeks ago, we decided to explore the malls in the city of Toronto to see what they had to offer. This week we decided to step out of the city and travel to some of the shopping centres that are just a short trip away from Toronto’s bustling downtown area. With the busy holiday shopping season approaching and frantic shoppers filling up Toronto malls, we suggest you include a few of these hidden gems into your shopping repertoire. With shorter lines at the register, not to mention the full racks of clothing that haven’t been picked over a hundred times, check out these four malls that make shopping in the suburb’s superb!

1) Bramalea City Centre – An unknown gem to us, Bramalea City Centre has plenty of selection for shoppers and, we were impressed by the square footage of the stores it carried. The mall, like the city it calls home, was hit hard during the global recession with some of the larger American retailers backing out of proposed new store developments as they began to reel in Canadian expansion, plus securing a much talked about Target store in the old Zellers location. Proving itself to be an attraction in its own right, Bramalea City Centre has been gaining momentum as a fashion destination that is attractive to shoppers and business alike. And with the recent launch of the mall’s new loyalty program that rewards shoppers with special deals and offers tailored to uniquely to your shopping preferences.

We recently had a chance to work with Bramalea City Centre’s ‘FashioniCity’ program to design special city-themed display windows. To check out our work and to learn more about ‘FashioniCity’ click here.

2) Sherway Gardens – Located right off the highway, on the edge of Etobicoke and Mississauga, this mall was quite an attraction to the residents of the area ever since it was fist opened in 1971. The mall was originally anchored by Eaton’s and Simpsons, but then attracted The Bay, Sears, and Holt Renfrew. The mall was taken over by Cadillac Fairview in 2000 and also started to get a face lift that makes it the high-end mall it is today.

3) Vaughn Mills Mall – Hosting a number of large stores including giant outlets that will carry both current fashion as well as previous collections offered at a great price. Budget savvy fashionistas already make Vaughn Mills a regular stop with designer clearance store Holt Renfrew’s Last Call (rumored to be transforming into Holt’s new HR2). For those without access to a car, or for those who don’t want to make the daunting TTC journey, Vaughn Mills runs an exclusive shuttle bus service from Toronto’s Union Station.

The shuttle bus isn’t your typical Greyhound either! We had a chance to ride the comfy shuttle when we participated in the Vaughn Mills Media Challenge. The bus makes for an easy commute and offers a great option for spending a day shopping with the family or a special someone. The shuttle runs during the busy Spring/Summer season, and will be making a special Black Friday service! For more information on the Black Friday shuttle, click here.

Newly Opened: J. Crew Factory, Lego Land

Opening Soon: Calvin Klein

4) Markville Mall – Tucked away in Toronto’s North York region, this mall was often forgotten. However, with new stores, modern renovations, and an ever changing demographic in its surrounding neighbourhoods has brought new life back to the mall. With an emphasis on higher end brands, and wealthier residents moving into the area, this could be a winning situation for Markville Mall. We look forward to visiting this mall next summer to see how the new store openings have changed this once ignored shopping centre.
