Ralph Leroy FW 2013 - Montreal Fashion Week (1)

Designer in several capacities and creator of jewelry, Ralph Leroy combines the sharpness of the cut with his contemporary vision of fashion by way of a chic, urban and contemporary style. Collection F/W 2013 With an impressive showing of 30+ outfits, and a packed runway show that included Hollywood superstar Will Smith, the collection ranged from urban traveler to black-tie-gala showstoppers. The designer’s inspiration for this collection was ‘Kenskoff’ (a place in the mountains of Haiti which, in the morning mist, plays on nature’s beautiful, bright colours). A master of fine materials such as leather, suede, silk and wool, Ralph Leroy combines these fabrics to create beautiful, textural collections. Combined with sisal straw and coconut fibers from Haiti, the pieces in the collection look and feel luxurious while representing all the beauty you can find in nature. The menswear was both elegant and seductive, with suiting taking centre stage in glossy pearl-white finishes. An unexpected treat at this show was the high-energy dance that took place following the runway show, which combined traditional Haitian dance with modern ballet, which had audience members on their feet clapping and smiling along. The dance showed off the designer’s inspiration for the collection as well as exuberating the designers own high-energy and passion for life.
